Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg medical conditions in patients from infancy through adulthood, Dr. Philip Wrotslavsky is a highly respected fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and board certified (Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery) surgeon by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also licensed to practice in the state of California. Doctor Wrotslavsky podiatrist San Diego, San Diego foot doctor specialist

Dr. Wrotslavsky received his training on the East Coast, where he learned techniques such as performing a full bio mechanical exam, which allows him to identify lower extremity pathology from the spine all the way to the foot. He was fortunate enough to complete his orthopedic fellowship as the Chief Fellow under the guidance of Dr. Dror Paley and Dr. John Herzenberg in Baltimore, Maryland at the International Center for Limb Lengthening. The program, known as The Limb Reconstruction Fellowship Program, offered experience in studying the prevention and treatment of a variety of limb threatening foot ailments such as diabetic charcot neuroarthropathy, malunions, nonunions, and various limb deformities. While in the program, Dr. Wrotslavsky adopted techniques from the science of distraction osteogenesis while also becoming skilled at using a full range of orthopedic fixation materials, such as screws, intramedullary rods, plates, as well as monolateral and circular fixators. These techniques and materials help with the treatment of a variety of deformities.

Prior to the fellowship, Dr. Wrotslavsky completed his foot and ankle surgical residency training in New York City. Here, he worked with a multidisciplinary team of podiatric, orthopedic, vascular, and general physicians and surgeons in an inner city hospital. The team worked on patients with foot and ankle wound care, diabetics in need of limb salvage or reconstruction, ankle arthroscopy, trauma to the foot or ankle, neurological cavovarus foot reconstruction, and flatfoot reconstruction.

Wrotslavsky is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and has authored numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented his research at national and international meetings.

Dr. Wrotslavsky continues to enjoy working with teams of physicians to determine patients' ailments and helping them find the appropriate treatment. He currently performs surgery for his patients at Scripps Mercy Hospital and Pomerado Hospital.

Pediatrics and Children's Foot Problems

A significant part of Dr Wrotslavsky's training was dedicated to infants children and teenagers. His fellowship training was significantly dedicated to the treatment of children. As well his residency exposed him to many cases of children as well. Treatment of children require training, when choosing a doctor to treat your child make sure they had extensive training in caring for children. Children are not little adults they have very specialized issues. If your child complains of foot pain, ankle pain they tire easily and don't want to participate in sports it is time to make an appointment.

Joint Preservation

Dr. Wrotslavsky understands the stress that can come from hearing that only joint fusion or joint replacement can treat a particular condition. He strives to make these procedures a last resort because he knows that joint fusion procedures often causes pain elsewhere and that joint replacements can cause difficulties, such as limited range of motion. If either procedure fails, the patient is also brought back to square one, but with significant bone loss. That is why Dr. Wrotslavsky always strives to preserve the joins whenever possible and look for other remedies.

Limb Preservation

Dr. Wrotslavsky also works to preserve limbs and their functionality whenever possible. He uses surgical techniques to aggressively fight any infections while also educating patients and their families about tips to help them preserve limbs. He ensures that all patients always understand risks and benefits along with the rehabilitation that the patient should complete after surgery to preserve the functionality of their limbs.

Clubfoot

While other doctors may lead patients to believe that only an invasive procedure involving cutting muscles and tendons can help correct a clubfoot, Dr. Wrotslavsky instead successfully helps patients with a nonsurgical option known as the Ponseti method.

<> HEEL PAIN
Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, also referred to as heel spur syndrome when a bone spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, as well as nerve irritation.
Due to the fact that there are several causative factors, it is important to have heel pain properly diagnosed by a qualified physician. A foot and ankle surgeon is able to distinguish between all the possibilities and determine the underlying source of your heel pain.
What Is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue called the plantar fascia which extends from the heel to the toes. In the progression of condition, the fascia becomes irritated and then inflamed, which results in heel pain.
What are the Causes?
The most common cause of plantar fasciitis is a faulty structure within the foot. In some cases, patients either suffer from overly flat feet or high-arched feet which are more prone to developing plantar fasciitis.
Wearing footwear on hard, flat surfaces that does not provide support puts undue strain on the plantar fascia. Over time, this can also lead to plantar fasciitis. This is particularly evident for people whose job requires long hours standing on their feet. Excessive weight may also contribute to plantar fasciitis.

<> DR. WROTSLAVSKY
